How long has it been since you went back to high school? Junior high?
Recently, I was asked to speak at two different schools. The occasion was career day, and it was so much fun to share my journey with these fantastic students.
Back to School
Jefferson High School in Daly City and Parkway Heights Middle School in South City were gracious hosts for career day. It’s important to give back to the community, and sharing my story is one way to offer a fresh perspective to these kids. I think it was well received!
I mostly talked about how good grades get students into top universities. Top universities make us versatile enough to do what we want in life. And I shared my own journey, as well.
I did not grow up wanting to become a roofer. I worked to ultimately get accepted into UC Berkeley.
After I got my degree in business, I went straight into a corporate job. It seemed like the thing I had been working toward. I thought I wanted it. But, I soon realized, the corporate world was not what I’d expected.
At the same time, my father needed help running his roofing business. I thought about it for a while. I did some research about the contracting world, and I realized I might be able to bring something new to the business.
I drew up a strategy for Mr. Roofing and went to work. Things started to turn around, and I purchased a Solar Universe franchise.
Life is good. I am busy, happy, and able to give to my family and this company with abundance and energy. What more could you ask for?
It’s Not Just a Roof
You see, it’s not really about roofing at all. It’s about leveraging your strengths, no matter what field you find yourself in.
Last fall Mr. Roofing celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary, and we are still going strong. It’s such an honor to be here!
